Nofio Ysgol: Building water confidence for life
At Cardiff Met Sport, we're proud to support the delivery of Nofio Ysgol, a Welsh Government-funded initiative helping children across Cardiff develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to stay safe in and around water.
Nofio Ysgol isn't just about learning to swim. It's about developing water competence; the ability to move confidently, stay safe, and make informed decisions around water throughout life.
Whether it's a child's first time in a swimming pool or they're already confident swimmers, every session provides an opportunity to learn, achieve, and have fun.
What is Nofio Ysgol?
Nofio Ysgol is Wales' national school swimming programme, designed to help more children access high-quality swimming and water safety education.
Through partnerships between schools, local authorities, swimming providers, and Swim Wales, the programme supports children to develop the skills and confidence needed to enjoy water safely.
Lessons are delivered by qualified level 2 swimming teachers and are designed to help pupils progress through a structured framework of aquatic skills and water safety knowledge.
Breaking Down Barriers
For many schools, accessing swimming lessons can be challenging due to the costs associated with transport and programme delivery.
Through Nofio Ysgol, these barriers are being reduced by providing:
Fully funded swimming lessons
A contribution towards transport costs
Access to qualified swimming teachers and high-quality facilities
A coordinated city-wide programme that supports schools across Cardiff
By reducing financial barriers, Nofio Ysgol creates opportunities for more children to access swimming lessons and develop skills that could benefit them for life.
Ysgol Nofio in Cardiff is delivered using our previous Ysgol Nofio Caerdydd framework. This ensures schools;
Access quality provision local
Receive quality provision no matter where they access it
Reduce transport and emissions
Working Together Across Cardiff
Nofio Ysgol is delivered through a network of trusted aquatic providers across Cardiff. Schools are allocated to providers through local cluster arrangements, helping ensure lessons are delivered at the most appropriate venue.
Our Delivery Partners:
While lessons may take place at different venues, all providers work towards the same goal:
Developing water competence
Improving water safety awareness
Building confidence in and around water
Encouraging lifelong participation in aquatic activities
Ensuring every child has access to high-quality swimming experiences
