The Young Leaders Officiating Training course equips aspiring sports leaders with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to confidently officiate NFL FLAG Football. Designed for young people stepping into leadership or officiating roles, this course blends rules education, hands‑on activities, and real‑game experience to build confidence, communication, and game‑management expertise.

Participants will learn the fundamental principles of NFL FLAG, including how the game is played, how to start and control a match, and how to ensure fair and safe play. Through interactive activities, learners explore key concepts such as field layout, scoring, downs, the no‑run zone, and defensive strategies. The course also introduces common penalties and how to identify, explain, and apply them in live scenarios.

A major component of the course focuses on practical officiating skills. Trainees are introduced to the roles and responsibilities of the Head Referee, Line Judges, and Back Judge, learning where to position themselves, how to manage the play clock, and how to communicate decisions clearly. Working in small groups, participants practise officiating real gameplay, developing teamwork, confidence, and leadership.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Set up and manage an NFL FLAG game safely and effectively

  • Understand and apply the rules, scoring system, and field markings

  • Recognise and enforce penalties with confidence

  • Perform the duties of each officiating role

  • Communicate clearly with players, coaches, and other officials

  • Work as part of an officiating team to manage a game from start to finish

This course is ideal for young leaders, sports ambassadors, volunteers, or anyone looking to develop leadership skills through sport. No prior officiating experience is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
